Description
Microsaccus javensis, the Java Microsaccus, is a succulent-like vandaceous orchid from Malaysia and Java that grows warm to cool. If you are a lover of interesting orchid forms, this is an excellent addition to your collection along with other “braided” species like Dendrobium leonis or fan-like species like Oberonia rufilabris. While the flowers are cute little white guys that pop in the summer, the reason to have Microsaccus javensis is for the plant itself.
Like other species from this part of the world, Microsaccus javensis prefers to get wet and then dry out quickly so roots don’t stay soggy. Microsaccus is most closely related to Aerides, so they prefer low light and high humidity. Best grown mounted, and these guys would do well in a terrarium, too.
