Neofinetia Terminology

Neofinetia (Vanda) falcata Terminology

Bean Leaf:   Leaves are thicker and shorter

Contorted Growth:   Leaves have a twist or contortion.

Ocean Wave:   Leaves will have a slight twist, more so at apices.

Peacock Growth:  Leaves point up rather than curving down.

Pine Needle Growth:   Leaves are narrow and pointy, with many more per growth, closely spaced.

Princess Leaf:   Slightly narrow leaf.

Samurai Growth:   Leaves with a strong curve downwards.

Shima Stripes:  Variegation that runs the length of the leaf

Fukurin:   Marginal variegation; striping may be along the leaf edge, as well as the center of the leaf

Tiger Striping:   Translates as “Tiger Uneveness;” markings are bands of color on the leaf.  Some are distinct while others blend.

Tsuke:  the junction of the leaf blade and the stem/axis of the plant.  This is usually crescent shaped, but may also be a wave, mountain, or straight line.

Meikan:  the list of the top rated fukiran (Neofinetia falcata) which is updated yearly by the All Nippon Fukiran Society in Japan.
