Maxillaria tenuifolia variegated

$34.99

Maxillaria tenuifolia, better known as the Coconut Orchid for its amazing scent, is a great orchid for beginners.  From Central and South America, this species grows in warm to cool temperatures and likes intermediate light.  Although some sources say this species likes a winter rest, I have never given my big guy a rest, and he blooms reliably.  In summer, provide ample water and watch this guy grow like a weed.

Flowers are dark brick red with gold spots, and the scent is amazing.  You will be transported to the beach with the smell of coconut suntan oil.  I love the form of this plant, too, with its oval pseudobulbs and long thin leaves.

The difference between this guy and the classic Maxillaria tenuifolia is that the variegated version has subtle light green striping on the pseudobulbs.  For people who want something different or rare, this is a nice addition to your collection.

Blooming size plants potted in moss.
