Happy New Year!
It’s 2017, and this year is already flying by. Last year ended with a long trip to see family and friends in Virginia and Ohio. Now it’s time to prepare for the upcoming show season. We are still adding more show and talk dates even as I type. We stand now at 11 shows between now and the end of March, and we have another two in April. That doesn’t count talks! I am already looking forward to giving a talk at the Redlands show in Florida in May–a show that I still long to go to as a vendor. I’m making baby steps. I will be able to bring plants as preorders at least, so keep that in mind if you are planning to go, especially if you were hoping to catch up with me in Tamiami which I sadly can not attend this year.
Winter Shipping
I don’t know what the weather will bring us this winter, but I plan to ship as often as I can. My limitations are my time at home (see comment on schedule above) and extreme cold. When we are below 20 degrees, as we are right now, I will not ship–too risky. Once we get into the 20’s, assuming we don’t have a ton of snow that can slow up the mail, I can ship with a 72-hour heat pack. I have not had a problem when taking that precaution.
Plant Availability
The menu of plants is always changing, but the most recent price list is here. I have many other plants as well, and I will try to get them added to the list. You can preorder plants for any talk or show which will get you a 10% discount and no shipping charge–always a welcome bonus.
In the greenhouse right now, the Lepanthes look so amazing that I am fancying myself the Queen of Lepanthes. As I noted in a previous post, unless you are growing outside where it is really hot (like the Southern US), you CAN grow cool-growing orchids. If you’re an indoor grower, you can definitely grow them. The Cattleyas are all forming buds which is very exciting, and some of the Dendrobiums are in bud or bloom. Oh, and I have my first Stanhopea spike ever!! I am so excited! I just hope I’m home when it opens…
I hope to see you out there in Orchid Land sometime soon,
Best wishes for a wonderful 2017,
Kristen
