Not only do orchids bring us joy, but they also bring us longer life.  Ellen Langer, a psychology professor and researcher at Harvard, found that people at a care facility who were given a plant to take care of lived significantly longer than those who had no plant or who had a plant cared for by others.  Check out this link to the Diane Rehm show where I heard about this if you are interested in hearing more.  Consider this when you buying presents for your friends and family.

If I have lots of plants, will I live a lot longer?  Hmmm, I can only try.
