Dendrochilum is an epiphytic orchid genus native to Borneo and the Philippines where it grows at moderate elevations in cloud forests. Grown in cool to warm temperatures, Dendrochilum prefers to stay damp and grow in moderate light with good air movement.
I read a lot of untrue or unuseful information online regarding Dendrochilum. Contrary to reports, there are a few widely available species , and they are quite easy to grow and bloom. Though typically potted in a bark mix, I prefer loosely packed moss (predictable, I know), but they may be mounted, as well. Dendrochilum is a reliable winter bloomer. In full bloom, plants look like a living shower of flowers with multiple twisted racemes of tiny flowers, sometimes fragrant. Out of bloom, plants are usually miniature/small with grass-like leaves.
