Description
Vandachostylis Dainty (Neof. falcata x Rhynchostylis retusa) is a medium-sized vanda that produces large bunches of white to pale pink flowers with pink accents. Both the plant and the flowers live up to their given name, “Dainty.” The leaves are rather narrow but long, and the the inflorescence seems to be almost too floriferous for the spike to keep upright. Both plant and inflorescence tend to curve gracefully down like a lady taking a bow or dropping a curtsey. Very elegant, I assure you. You may think the plant looks wilted, but the nodding habit is characteristic of this cross.
I grow Vandachostylis Dainty mostly in baskets, but they can also grow in a pot with a chunky bark mix to minimize watering. I have had excellent success with standard Vandas in pots here in Michigan. The roots grow vigorously and are a great indicator of general plant happiness. Grow in moderate light and warm to intermediate temperatures. Water well then allow to dry out which will mean daily watering unless you grow this in a pot. If you find that the roots are drying out, add more chunky mix to the pot or basket to maintain more humidity around the roots.
