Restrepia mendozae is a Colombian species and a member of the pleurothallid alliance. This is an unusual restrepia because it is a warm grower. Flowers are a beautiful clear yellow with burgundy spots; long-lasting. R. mendozae is a successive bloomer, also.
Although restrepias are typically known as cool-growers, they grow well under intermediate conditions as well. A versatile genus, they grow well either mounted or potted depending on the level of attention that you are willing to provide. They only ask to be kept evenly moist. Grow under moderate to low light, and you will be rewarded with beautiful flowers nearly year round and a fast-growing plant. In fact, I have found that lower light promotes better blooming. Plants prefer moderate to high humidity and good air circulation. Terrariums are a great place for restrepias although they do not have to be in one.
