Description
Oberonia rufilabris, the fox-red lip Oberonia, is a super-mini Asian species that grows warm to cool. I was late to start growing Oberonia, and I can’t tell you how easy and rewarding this genus is. I have them mounted and in pots, they bloom easily and flowers last forever (okay, at least a couple months). The inflorescence is long and forms, essentially, a fuzzy red tail that emerges from a plant which is worth growing on its own merits. The plant growth form of Oberonia rufilabris is fleshy bright green fans with short roots–super cute even without the tail!
If you look at the super close-up of the flower, you’ll see the little men that are sometimes featured on emails that circulate interesting flower forms. The truth is you can’t see the little men without the help of a magnifying glass. However, like the gnomes and fairies that live in your orchid collection, just because you don’t see them, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
This is a particularly nice batch of plants with multiple growths. I haven’t had them in a while and I don’t know when I’ll have them again or how big they will be. Take advantage!
