Description
Dendrobium candidum (“The White Dendrobium;” section Dendrobium) turns out to be a rather confusing little guy despite his rather boring name. He can be confused with at least two other species, D. officinale and D. moniliforme, both of which can be confused for one another. D. candidum is from western Himalayas, so keep him on the cool side. If he is like his counterparts, he won’t mind some heat in the summer. Flowers are pure white, fragrant, and long-lasting. Grow in moderate light, and back off on water in the winter.
Dendrobium candidum and his buddies are all noted in respected science journals for their medicinal properties (you’d have to read the articles to know more about this). You can buy the Dendrobium supplements on Amazon and Etsy, although I would definitely not do that. You never know what you’re going to get. You also never know what plants have been sprayed with, so don’t eat your own orchids, either. Just sayin’.
