We are all relying on postal carriers (USPS, FedEx, and UPS) to get a lot of what we need. Those essential workers have a lot more volume to move, but they, too have COVID-19 problems: illness, family at home, etc. Even Amazon packages are arriving in a week instead of a day or two.
I ship through USPS for its convenience and cost-effectiveness. Up until about three weeks ago, packages were arriving mostly in 2-3 days as expected. Lately, a week is more common. Partly this is the pure volume USPS is experiencing, but I think the larger problem is that the Detroit Regional Facility, which sorts every bit of mail coming from this part of Michigan, has been hit hard with COVID-19. Many boxes are sitting for three days in Detroit.
While this is irritating, frustrating, and maddening, the probability that your plants will suffer any damage is very small. You guys know that orchids are much more resilient than the general public thinks they are. While I am TRULY sorry for these delays, there is nothing I can do to speed things up short of mailing by FedEx which is more money than most of us want to spend on shipping. (They are experiencing backups, too.) I just wanted to explain what is happening and ask for your patience.
I hope you are all safe and well. I hope that we will all see each other soon at shows and meetings and right here at the greenhouse. We are all in this together!
